Samson Health Care Centre

Samson Health centre

The Samson Health Care Centre is where nurses and doctors dispense medication, provide medical intervention and check ups and look after residents if they become suddenly ill.

Highlands House has recently implemented a new project which  improves the quality of care, health and life for our residents.

In 2008, Dr Geffen and his team's efforts led them to the interRAI (international resident assessment instrument) Assessment System. The interRAI assessment tool gathers information about the resident from the resident themselves, their caregivers and other professionals involved in their care (in some instances, family members too) through a series of standardised questions and observations, spanning a specific 3-day observation period, to the previous three months, to lifetime in general.

The assessment evaluates the resident holistically, gathering data about their physical, psychological, social and medical needs, thereby guiding comprehensive, individual care-planning.

The data gathered can also be used to evaluate the performance of the care facility with regards to its service delivery, at a level comparative to international standards.

Research into the development of the interRAI Assessment System began in 1978, and its question-sets and rating scales have been validated against internationally-standardised outcome measures (assessments).

In 2012, the implementation of the interRAI pilot project at Highlands House was given the green-light and now runs successfully at the Home.
