Olga Fuchs has been at Highlands House since August 2013 and resides in the Special Care Unit. Olga is a lovely soft spoken woman with brilliant blue eyes. When speaking to her about her move to Highlands House she beamed and mentioned that it has been a wonderful four months. Monty Teperson

MONTY TEPERSON

Resident

 

Monty Teperson is 91 years old and  has been at Highlands House for nine years. An adventurous man, Monty spent many years in the Merchant Navy, travelling to places such as Sierra Leone, South America and Northern Europe. However, Monty is known for his skills as a portrait artist and many a resident, staff member or visitors has asked him to draw pictures of loved ones for them.

Being Thankful…

"Happy" that's how I feel since I arrived at Highlands House one year ago today. One year later and I am still happy, even my high blood pressure became normal, naturally why shouldn't I be happy in a beautiful home opposite Table Mountain. I'm being looked after very well as I receive three meals a day, a beautiful clean room and friendly caregivers help me when needed. New resident finds a new hobby in caring for our hothouse.

After a decision was made to move to Highlands House, our daughter wanted to see where we would be making our new home and came from Israel to visit. We showed her around the home and took her to the room into which we would be moving. She was most impressed with the surroundings and she returned to Israel very happy knowing that her parents would be well looked after.

Jennifer Burnet - Resident and Reception Relief

Jennifer Burnett has been at Highlands House for almost 3 years. When asked about her time at Highlands she expressed that it has been a very rewarding time. " I enjoy helping the residents, no matter how minor the task is. It brings me into contact with just about everyone. It gives me great pleasure to give back to the Home as they have done so much for me. I also cannot believe how many social activities the residents have to do and more and more residents are taking on voluntary positions to help run these activities".

Sylvia Walters is 90 years old. If you asked Sylvia about her age she would say that she feels 30 in a 90 year old body. She is always positive with a smile on her face. Born in Johannesburg, she moved from town to town due to the fact that her father, a hotelier, was asked to work on numerous hotels around South Africa. She went to seven different schools and spoke Afrikaans as her home language.

Colleen Jansen - Care Manager, Pasvolsky SCU

 

Colleen Jansen did not think that her career path would lead her to Highlands House. As a young woman she had thought that she may become a secretary or dental assistant, but fate brought her here and she has never looked back and has been at the House for almost twenty. Naomi Meyer - Snr Occupational Therapist

Naomi Margaret Ruth Meyer is the Senior Occupational Therapist at Highlands House.  She joined the interdisciplinary team in 2009 and discovered a passion for working with the elderly.  Ms Meyer graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2007.  After completing her studies, her community service year was spent at Alexander Hospital in Maitland working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities.

Lesley-Ann Engel - Social Co-ordinator

Lesley-Ann joined Highlands House in July as the new Social Activities Coordinator in the Susman Lifestyle Centre at Highlands House. Almost four months in and she is a favourite in the Home. Our residents love her engaging personality and empathetic nature. And it shows. When asked how she is finding the job, she beamed and answered that she absolutely loves working with the elderly. Robyn Black - interRai Coordinator and OT

Robyn Black is an Occupational Therapist coordinating and facilitating an exciting pilot project at Highlands House.

A Herzlia matriculant, Robyn qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2002.

Upon completing her community service year, Robyn moved to London where she developed her skills in 'Elderly Care' and 'Acute Medicine (adults)' in the hospital-based setting.

Anisha joined the Highlands House team as the new Occupational Therapist in November 2013. She was born and raised in Cape Town and when she finished her degree at the University of Cape Town she worked in the Government sector for two years, in a general OT capacity. This was followed by three years at a busy private practice, based at Vincent Pallotti Hospital and Constantiaberg Medi Clinic.
