Ageing in Health

Health Centre

Highlands House boasts a 24-hour nurse-run health centre (clinic) addressing all our residents’ health needs. Our nurses perform room-based nursing for those residents who cannot attend the clinic or are too unwell and being cared for in bed, with 5 nurses rotating on the day shift and 3 through the night. Nurses attend to all routine and emergency healthcare needs and conduct weekly check-ups with residents. All of our nurses are experienced in end-of-life care.

Medication Centre

Our medication centre is located within our clinic. Every resident’s medication is blister-packed and administered by our healthcare team. Our full-time Medications Sister and Pharmacy Assistant manage the day-to-day running of the medications centre, attend to queries, and address and affect all medication changes.

GP Programme

During the COVID pandemic, we initiated a GP Programme whereby every resident in the Home is allocated and attended to by a contracted private GP, regardless of whether they are a private or state patient. Our team of GPs attend the home weekly during allocated time slots to address any medical issues that have arisen for their residents over the previous week. Our clinic team are in regular contact with the GPs for their input on health concerns, and the GPs are available to conduct further consultations should the need arise. Our policy is to conduct a 4-monthly check-up with any residents who do not require regular GP input.

Robyn Black, our Health Services Manager, oversees the clinic, medication, and medical appointments. You can learn more about her experience by clicking here.
