Part of Highlands House’s Service Offering
Ways to Connect
Over and above looking after residents’ daily living and care needs, Highlands House offers a Lifestyle Centre equipped to facilitate various activities, creating a warm and inviting environment for residents to socialise and engage. The Lifestyle Centre runs a meaningful monthly schedule of weekday programmes (advised by our occupational therapists) that engage residents’ cognitive, social, creative, spiritual, and physical exercise interests, emphasising Jewish culture and faith. Special events are planned around the Jewish and South African calendars. Jewish holidays are celebrated with concerts, talks, and shiurs focusing on a particular chag. This is bolstered by a few annual events that staff and residents collaborate on, including our Channukah Party and Fashion Show. Our Volunteers facilitate some of these activities.
- Our regular programme includes such activities as daily exercise classes, bingo, movie and music screenings, quizzes, baking demonstrations, carpet bowls
- Resident Lounges: There is a resident lounge in each section of the Home with a television and comfortable seating for resident enjoyment
- Dining Rooms on the 1st Floor and Ground Floor serve three meals daily, complete with friendly waiting staff and a tantalising daily menu
- Cafe B’Tayavon offers fresh treats baked daily, light lunches, and coffee by Bootleggers. Enjoy sitting in the tranquil garden overlooking Table Mountain
- Our on-site volunteer-run library offers interesting reading material in a quiet setting. Residents can also borrow from the Jacob Gitlin Library at the South African Museum with our special exchange programme
